NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service

MHCS provides multicultural communication and social marketing to Government health-funded services. www.mhcs.health.nsw.gov.au

The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) is a state-wide service funded by the NSW Ministry of Health (MoH) to develop and provide multilingual health resources, multicultural social marketing and health communication campaigns. MHCS has a website that hosts over 400 free downloadable multilingual health resources on a variety of health topics in 65 languages.

MHCS NSW offers a number of services ranging from translation, ethnic media advice, and research to the production and distribution of multilingual resources.

Our role is to:
1. Design, implement and evaluate communication and social marketing campaigns.
2. Provide strategic advice to NSW Health, and handle enquiries from health staff about all aspects of multicultural communication.
3. Manage a multilingual website with more than 450 publications on health in a wide range of languages.
4. Manage quality translations for the health sector wishing to produce multilingual information.
5. Work with an extensive network of ethnic media, community and professional bodies, such as ethnic medical associations to extend the reach of interventions.
6. Provide advice to organizations undertaking research with CALD communities, including facilitating in language focus groups.

The work of the Service is guided by a high level Advisory Committee, and a Multilingual Information Committee.
